The annual International Roadcheck inspection event begins this week, running May 12–14, and now is the time to make sure your trucks and drivers are prepared.
During this 72-hour enforcement initiative, inspectors across North America organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct detailed inspections on commercial vehicles and drivers to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Vehicles found with critical violations could be placed out of service, making preparation especially important for fleets and owner-operators alike. Before your trucks hit the road next week, here are a few key areas to review:
Tires
Check tire pressure, tread depth, and overall tire condition. Properly inflated tires with good tread help improve traction, handling, and overall safety.
Brakes
Inspect the entire brake system for signs of wear or damage. Make sure brake components are functioning correctly and that there are no obvious leaks, cracks, or excessive wear.
Cargo Securement
Verify that all cargo is properly secured using the correct tie-downs and equipment. Loose or improperly secured cargo is one of the most common issues flagged during inspections.
Driver Documentation
Ensure all required paperwork is current, organized, and easy to access. This includes CDL, Medical examiner’s certificate, hours of service records, vehicle registration and insurance, shipping papers, annual inspection documentation.
Vehicle Cleanliness & Safety Equipment
A clean cab matters more than you might think. Make sure the interior is tidy, free from unnecessary debris, and that emergency equipment is easy to access if needed.
